“SUPERNATURAL” GETS ANIMATED

The CW series SUPERNATURAL, whose sixth season premieres this fall, has spawned several novels, three miniseries from DC Comics’ WildStorm imprint and an on-line series starring the Ghostfacers—a group of paranormal investigators. Now, Warner Bros.’ Japanese website has launched a section for SUPERNATURAL: THE ANIMATION, a “special project” set to debut in January 2011.
Spinoff Online reports that Madhouse, the anime studio behind DEATH NOTE and segments of BATMAN: GOTHAM KNIGHT, is producing 22 episodes that cover the first two seasons of the live-action show. This edition will not only remake the best episodes but also involve all-new, original stories including prologues digging into the Winchester brothers’ childhood, anime-only enemies and the exploits of secondary characters from the live-action version.
SUPERNATURAL: THE ANIMATION will be released on DVD and Blu-ray in Japan in three volumes beginning January 12. Series creator Eric Kripke is credited as creator of the anime, which is being co-directed by Shigeyuki Miya and Atsuko Ishizuka. Click here to visit the official site.
